Hello Kitty Town Malaysia in Johor Bahru is the first Sanrio Hello Kitty theme park outside of Japan.  It is located on the first floor of the indoor Puteri Harbour Family Theme Park, just a short drive from the Singapore-Malaysia second link.  The other two floors are for the Little Big Club.

It is not a very big area.  We were able to complete it in less than 3 hours. The visit to Hello Kitty was more for the girls, especially my four-year-old.  You can imagine my teenage boy’s reaction when I said we were going to Hello Kitty.  “Thrilled” was definitely not the word to describe his reaction.

Kitty’s House

A big part of the theme park was taken up by Hello Kitty’s house.

Fans of Hello Kitty would be thrilled to see everything decorated in Hello Kitty style, starting from the main entrance, to the living area, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.

Wishful Studio – Cookie Making

Hello Kitty Cookie

The fun part for the girls was participating in activities at the Wishful Studio.  They got to decorate the Hello Kitty cookie with chocolate and colourful sprinkles.

They also “made” jewellery by choosing a pendant and putting it on a chain.

Hello Kitty Black Wonder Game

There was also a game at Hello Kitty Black Wonder where we were tasked to look for clues and piece the clues together to get the answer.

My 4-year-old was not entirely comfortable walking around this dark and somewhat spooky place.

Hello Kitty Dress-upHello Kitty Dress-up

Last but not least was the Hello Kitty dress-up and photo taking.  My girls got to dress up as Hello Kitty and My Melody.  They made me dress up as the penguin as that was the only other costume left.

If ther was one thing that I learned at Hello Kitty Town, it was the name of Hello Kitty’s penguin friend. Do you know its name?

It’s Batz Maru.

So is the Hello Kitty Town really worth going?  I would say “Yes”, if you are a fan of Hello Kitty.

A Friendly Tip – If you are thinking of going, I would suggest to start with the Little Big Club on the second and third floors first, then go to the Hello Kitty Town on the first floor.  When I was there, most people did the systematic way and started on the first floor.  I was glad that I didn’t follow the crowd, because the queue got considerably shorter after lunchtime when people headed to the second and third floors.  You can book your tickets at www.playtime.com.my.
