The Sunway Lost World of Tambun is an all-in-one adventure park in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia which has a Water Park, an Amusement Park, a Tin Valley, a Swan Lake, a Tiger Valley, a Petting Zoo and my favourite – Hot Springs and Spa.

Lost World Water Park

The first thing we headed for was the big wave pool. Next, was the Explora Bay for kids with many slides and a pirate ship. The Lost World Water Park also has 2 water slides (cliff racer and tube raiders) but the queue was too long that we decided to skip it.

We also tried the Adventure River. Although the Adventure River was slow-moving and only knee-high, we enjoyed the natural landscape along its path.

Amusement Park

The amusement park had a small roller coaster ride, a haunted house, and several other rides like the Viking and carousel.

There was an interesting cave which was set up with dining tables and stage for some private event. I wasn’t sure if it was part of the amusement park attraction, but I thought it would be quite cool to have a dinner party in a cave.

Tin Valley

At the Tin Valley, we got a glimpse of Tin mining, Ipoh’s oldest industry, including elephants that were used to transport the heavy tin ore.

The kiddos got the chance to try out tin ore panning (“Dulang washing”) at the Tin Valley.

Swan Lake

At the Swan Lake, apart from the paddle boats shaped like swans, there were a number of muted swans in the lake.  My daughters loved feeding the fish while we paddled gently on the lake with a nice backdrop of the Tin Valley and the Needle of Tambun.

My girls couldn’t get enough out of feeding the fish. They continued feeding the fish even after the paddle boat ride.

Look at how hungry the Koi fish looked.  They were jumping out of the water with mouth wide open waiting to be fed.

Apart from swans, there were also tigers and other cats at the Tiger Valley, miniature horses, and a small Petting Zoo. Check out the marching swans. Don’t they look adorable?

Hot Springs and Spa

My favourite part of the park was the Hot Springs. Dipping in the Hot Springs was like melting away the aches and pain all over your body. The Hot Springs is opened to the public during the day, and is included in the park entrance fee.  After 6pm, when the park closes to the public, the Hot Springs opens specially to Lost World Hotel guests, for free!

There were several pools with varying temperature levels.  My kids liked the Saphira’s Lair the most as it was big and not so hot (37-40 degrees). See picture below.

The rest of the pools were hotter, with temperatures ranging from 40 to 43 degrees.  There was also a foot spa with reflexology pebbles to “massage” the feet. I managed to walk around the foot spa but with extreme agony. There was also a steam cave which was good for detoxification, blood circulation and maybe even weight loss!

Although there were no big roller coaster rides, or high tech 3D rides, for an entrance fee of RM48 per adult, we got a fun-filled day at the Lost World of Tambun.  Visitors can get a further 10% discount when buying tickets online, or staying as guests at the Lost World Hotel.  Citibank or Maybank card holders get an even better deal of 20% discount off the entrance fee.

Useful Tips

  • The hotel doesn’t have a room big enough for a family of 4 or more.  You need to get two rooms, but don’t choose the Exotic Room if you want adjoining rooms. Choose the Classic Double or Twin Room.
  • Come early to the theme park.  The queues for purchasing tickets were very long when we were there.  Fortunately, there was a separate shorter queue for Lost World Hotel guests.  If you don’t have a Citibank or Maybank card, then it is better to buy the tickets online to save you from the long queue at the ticket counter.  The website is http://www.sunwaylostworldoftambun.com
  • Lockers are available for rent.  The ones that can open multiple times are popular and get taken first.  Those who came late ended with lockers that could only be opened once, and it was for the same price.
  • Don’t bring any food to the park.  The park charges a fee for keeping the food for you at the entrance.
  • If you are interested to take the 2 water slides, queue up for them first as the queue gets longer during the day.  Same goes for the roller coaster ride.
  • Most people went to the water park first in the morning and the dry park in the afternoon.  To beat the crowd, do the dry park areas first, unless you want to take the 2 water slides.
  • There were a number of food choices at the park.  Avoid lunch time (12-2pm) as it tends to get extremely crowded.

Nasi Kandar Ipoh

  • If you are out of the park, you can consider eating at PappaRich located at the Lost World Hotel, or take a 15 minute drive to savour Ipoh’s famous Nasi Kandar at Yong Suan Coffee Shop at 2 Jalan Yang Kalsom near the police station.  Some call it Nasi Ganja (ganja is a type of drug), not because it had drugs in it, but because it was so addictive that people would come back for it again and again.
