No visit to Innsbruck, the capital of the Alps, is complete without going up the Austrian Alps.  After spending a day in Innsbruck exploring the Old Town and visiting the Swarovski Crystal Palace, we decided to take a ride to the top of the Austrian Alps before leaving for Italy.

The top of the Alps could be reached from Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen.  We had to take the funicular first (see photo on the right) before taking the cable car ride to the top.

At the top of the Austrian Alps

At the top of the alps, we get to enjoy a panoramic view of the vast European mountain range, and the town of Innsbruck below.  As we were there quite early in the morning, the place was not crowded.  We were able to sit down and enjoy the fresh and cool morning breeze.

While the girls and I sat down to enjoy the view, the boys went to explore other parts of the mountain top.   That’s my boy looking like he was singing a tune from The Sound of Music. “The hills are alive with the sound of music”.

The crisp fresh air and the majestic views from the top of the mountains left a lasting impression on us before we said farewell to Austria and continued our 15-day Europe with Kids adventure and journeyed by train to to Italy to visit cities like VeniceFlorence, Pisa and Cinque Terre and Rome.

Tips

  • For those with more time, you could bring the kids to the Alpen Zoo to see a large collection of mountain animals from the world’s alpine region.
