Jungfraujoch is the tallest mountain in Europe and is one of the  two most popular mountains to visit when in Switzerland.  The other is Mt Titlis.  To get there, you need to go to Interlaken train station and take several trains up to the top.

Train rides to Jungfraujoch

The scenery we saw during the train rides to the Jungfraujoch was simply stunning.  We had to change trains twice to get to the top, one at Grindelwald, the other at Kl Scheidegg.  The first part of the journey were all greenery.

As we ascended higher, we saw part greenery, and part snow-capped mountains.

Grindelwald

We had a few minutes to walk around Grindelwald before the next train arrived.  While boarding the train, we were told to sit at the appropriate train carriage depending on our destination.  This was because  further along the track, the carriages were separated and went in different directions.

KL Schneigg

We changed train to the Jungfraubahn for our final ascent.

Jungfraujoch – The Top of Europe

The Top of Europe was at 3,454m (11,333 ft), at minus 2 degrees Celsius in June, with wind speed of 38 km/h.  It was really cold.  However, that did not deter us from stepping out and enjoying the fabulous view of the snow-capped mountains,  with blue skies above us, and white and puffy clouds below us.

Switzerland

There are three ways to enjoy the view.  See the picture below.  The first is the indoor viewing area.  The second is the open-air walkway 2,571m above sea level, and the third is getting down to the snow.  There was a Snow Park with  a number of snow activities, including sledging.  I wished we had gone there first because by the time we got there, all the activities had ended for the day.

Ice Palace

There was also an Ice Palace in the heart of Jungfraujoch with sculptures carved out from ice.
