Gunung Brinchang (Mount Brinchang) is the highest peak in Cameron Highlands in Malaysia that can be accessed by car and at 2032 m above sea-level, it provides a stunning view of the sunrise.Cameron Highlands

Up a watch tower we stood, with fresh cool wind blowing against our faces, we witnessed the sun sneaking a peek through the clouds and casting its light directly on the mountains to mark the start of a new day.

As the sun rose higher, its light passed through a small opening and shone on the clouds below. Despite the cloudy sky, we still got the chance to see an amazing sunrise.

The top picture is my favourite photo of the day, taken with just a compact point-and-shoot camera.  Gunung Brinchang straddles between the states of Perak and Pahang.  The view below is that of Pahang.  When we turned around, we saw Perak.  It’s not hard to believe that the area covered by Cameron Highlands is as big as Singapore!

Mossy Forest

Not too far from the peak of Gunung Brinchang, was Mossy Forest – a forest full of moss formed because of the constant mist and moisture from the low-lying clouds.

We did a quick 15 minute walk at the Mossy Forest before heading for morning tea at Sungai Palas Boh Tea Plantation.

Getting There

We did not drive up to the peak but instead joined a local tour from CS Travel & Tours (www.cstravel.com.my) from the travel desk at our hotel in Equatorial Cameron.

If you are confident enough to drive up to the peak, the access road begins at a left turning along the main road from the Equatorial Hotel and Kea Farm, and immediately after the Butterfly Garden.  From the start of the access road, it is a 9.5km drive up a very steep road. At the junction where the road heads right to Sungai Palas Boh Tea plantation, turn left instead.  There are no street lights, and the narrow road which could only fit one car comfortably is a two-way road, so need to watch out for cars from the other direction.
