Glamping at The Canopi Resort, Bintan

Have you ever heard of the word glamping?  No? Glamping is a relatively new term that comes from two words – Glamour and Camping.  You can experience Glamping at The Canopi Resort in Bintan, an island in Indonesia’s Riao Archipelago. The Canopi Resort boasts air-conditioned tent-suites that can accommodate 4 persons in a 4-poster bed, a day bed and an extra bed.  The resort allowed a fifth person in the same tent provided it is small kid. Other than the LCD TV and free Wifi, the furnitures and decor in the room made us feel like we were on an Indiana Jones...

Cherry Blossom in Singapore

Cherry Blossom is here in Singapore! Located at Gardens by the Bay, the blossoms will be on display at the Flower Dome until 27 March 2016.   Cherry blossom, also known as Sakura, is so famous in Japan that throngs of people flock to various cities in Japan to see the beautiful Sakura.   I have always wanted to see the Cherry Blossom in Japan but I have not gotten the chance as the kids are schooling.  Luckily, Gardens by the Bay is having them on display for two weeks.   I did not realise there were so many varieties of...

Krabi – 10 things to do with kids

Krabi is our family’s favourite destination in Thailand.  With more than 100 islands around the Andaman Sea boasting pristine beaches and clear emerald green water, Krabi is a perfect destination for those who love beaches and fun outdoor activities,  It is not too busy like in Bangkok, and not too touristy like in Phuket.   It is also family-friendly with hardly any rowdy and raunchy bars on the mainland. We visited Krabi twice in the past two years.  Our first trip was in June when the weather was not too good, while our second trip was in December when the whether was simply perfect...

Railay Beach in Krabi

Railay is a peninsula in Krabi that has three beaches – Railway Beach, Phra Nang Beach and Nammao Beach. It feels almost like a secluded island away from the mainland because it is fully cut off from all road access by limestone cliffs.  Visitors have to travel by boat to get to Railay.   Phra Nang Beach The most popular beach on Railay is Phra Nang Beach.   Located on the southernmost tip of Railay, it has a dramatic limestone cliff on one end (pictured above), sand as soft as powder, gentle waves, and warm and clear water. It is no surprise that many...

Snorkelling Trip in Krabi

Krabi is one of the most beautiful places in Thailand with many islands, clear emerald green water, soft sandy beaches and fascinating coral reefs.  An island-hopping snorkelling trip in Krabi is a must for all its visitors. Our family went on a day trip at sea exploring Hong Island and the 4 islands,  and witnessing an unforgettable sunset over the Andaman Sea.  We took a private long tail boat around the islands.   The Hong Islands Our first stop was supposed to be the Hong lagoon, but the tide was so low that none of the boats could enter.  In fact, we...

Krabi Town Night Market

The Krabi Town Night Market, also known as Walking Street, is one worth visiting while in Krabi, Thailand.  Available on weekends from Fridays to Sundays, the night market behind Vogue department store offers a fascinating insight into the local Thai culture. When we arrived at 6pm, all the stalls have already been set up, either in yellow tents, or in the open-air spaces.      The night market is a treasure trove for enthusiastic shoppers.  It boasts a variety of handicrafts made by the locals.   There were also stunning paintings of Krabi’s beautiful beaches done by the local artists.  ...

There are many great places for a Malaysia family getaway, but one thing that is a challenge for a family with kids is finding accommodations that could accommodate the whole family in one unit.  After all, a family vacation is about spending time together. While some hotels do offer adjoining rooms, they might not guarantee it at the time of booking.    We’ve stayed in hotels where our family was split into two rooms that were not even on the same floor! Here are ten Malaysian getaway ideas that our family have tried and enjoyed.  All are located in different parts of West Malaysia and...

Colmar Tropicale, Berjaya Hills Resort

Colmar Tropicale is a French-themed village located within the Berjaya Hills Resort in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, Malaysia.   We visited the resort during the school holidays as part of our Malaysian road trip. It was the girls’ first trip there. The rest of us visited the resort more than a decade ago.   The resort had various room types including a two-bedroom French-themed suite that could accommodate families with 4-5 members.   The suite had a large living area, a kitchenette and a fabulous view of the hillside from the balcony.  We booked the room through Booking.com.   After settling in, we headed out to explore...
